HomeTech & the easy way to add value to your home

With the economic recovery being only slightly less sluggish than the recession, the housing market has been badly affected. Tough selling conditions and stricter bank-lending criteria are leading many people to decide to stay and improve their property, instead of selling at what is proving to be a fraught time.

One way to add value to a property is by adding storage space. Adding storage is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to add value to your home, as it is one of the key features that potential homebuyers seek. HomeTech has a product that can enable homeowners to easily unlock the additional value they have in their home by making extra space easily accessible.

Paul Nielsen, HomeTech’s Managing Director said: “Many people seem oblivious to the fact that they have loads of potential storage space literally sitting above their heads! Most houses have ceiling cavity space, accessible by manhole. It is the access that makes that a problem. Putting in attic stairs is an extremely cost effective way to open up this space, making it easy, and safe, to access.”

Installing attic stairs is the easiest way to utilise the ceiling space that sits idle above your head. HomeTech have a range of attic stair options, from leading European manufacturer FAKRO. The stairs are manufactured from Nordic pine for long life, or come in a steel scissor stair. Prices start from $599, with installation services available.

Attic stairs are simple to operate: the inconspicuous spring loaded and insulated ceiling hatch is unlocked; the ladder sections then glide in a controlled fashion, to the ground. After use; simply fold up the ladder sections and gently raise the hatch to the ceiling. Attic stairs are straight forward to install; it only takes a couple of hours to complete the job. A builder or home handy man can install attic stairs. Alternatively, HomeTech Certified Installers offer a 10 year warranty on installation, matching the 10 year product warranty the stairs have.

The main benefit of staying in a house and improving it by doing things like adding storage, painting and landscaping is the added value that homeowners make when they sell their properties when the housing market does pick up.  Real estate agents agree that top on most homeowners’ list of wants is ample storage space.

Paul Nielsen said: “We New Zealanders love our bricks and mortar, and we take real pride in our homes. While current market conditions prevail, it seems the most sensible option is not to move, but improve. Utilising the space you already have is the best way to do this, and adding attic stairs makes accessing that space that much easier. It really is one of the simplest ways to add value to your property.”
